As a source for health care information, NMHA, in its advocacy efforts provides detailed financial data reports to represent member hospitals and health care systems at local, state and national levels covering: Reimbursement, Reporting to the Public and Consumers, and Data Analysis for Advocacy and Member Resources.

NMHA provides health care data and financial analyses of major reimburesement changes.  Using these data reports and analyses, hospitals can:
  • Determine the "real time" financial impact of federal health policy.
  • Provide "real-time" information on legislative changes that affect hospital and health system operations.
  • Determine the impact of a new Medicare payment system on an individual facility; comparing the impact of proposed Medicare payment changes within a system, state, or Congressional district.
  • Project and forecast an individual hospital's Medicare revenues.
  • Analyze actual vs. expected patient outcomes and examine these outcomes for improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor national, regional and peer group trends for key clinical performance indicators.

Beginning with the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 through to the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006 and beyond, there have been numerous changes in Medicare policy affecting hospital reimbursement. The 1997-2008 Medicare Hospital Under-Reimbursement Trends (HURT) analysis examines the impact of both the legislative policy and the associated regulatory changes on hospitals' Medicare reimbursement rates.
